Dental AI to Engage the Community

Older adults are one of the most vulnerable patient groups when it comes to oral health issues. They may encounter various obstacles when seeking regular dental check-ups. To improve dental services for them, a HKU dentistry team led by Dr. Walter Lam is working on a dental AI project that can assist in the early detection of oral diseases and regularly monitor their dental conditions. The technology has been applied to the outreach service of several elderly centers.

Solving the 'Goldilocks' Problem of Swallowing Disorders

Patients with swallowing disorders face a similar dilemma when it comes to the consistency of their food. But now, help is at hand for Hong Kong patients thanks to the work of Dr. Karen Chan Man-Kei, Director of the Swallowing Research Laboratory in the Faculty of Education, and her collaborators, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Centre for Nutritional Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
