Signing Ceremony of HKU-GETECH Industrial AI Joint Lab 

HKU, GETECH, and TCL have collaborated to set up a joint laboratory for Industrial Artificial Intelligence, as announced on 16 April. The partnership aims to transform industrial sectors by utilising advanced AI technologies to boost efficiency and productivity. With HKU's research expertise and TCL's innovation-led approach, the laboratory is poised to close the divide between academic research and industry requirements, promoting sustainable economic growth through groundbreaking AI solutions.

HKU and Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co. Ltd. (Shanghai SSCI) Forge a New Alliance!

On 25 April 2025, HKU and SSCI signed a Framework Agreement to enhance collaboration in science and technology between Hong Kong and Shanghai. Professor Max Shen, Vice-President (Research) of HKU, emphasised the University’s commitment to translating research into real-world impact, partnering with SSCI to establish a research-industry-market ecosystem. Dr. Dai Minmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of SSCI, stressed the corporation’s role as a state-owned capital investment and operational platform, strategically focusing on “Fund Management + Innovation Incubation”.

Celebrating the Champions of MedTech Hackathon GBA 2025!

The MedTech Hackathon 2025 GBA concluded successfully, co-hosted by HKU TEC and Bay Charm (Shenzhen). This six-week Lean Launcher Programme brought together innovators from the Greater Bay Area to accelerate healthcare solutions. Among 20 teams, Nordia Biotech, Kepler, and AGL for Smart Dental Manufacturing emerged as winners, earning a place at the Asia Summit of Global Health. The event underscored the region's growing leadership in MedTech innovation. Special thanks to track leaders, mentors, participating teams, and supporting partners for their contributions.

MedTech Co-innovation Conference & Accelerator Camp 2025

The HKU's TEC and HKUMed recently organised a visit to The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) with a team of innovative medical professionals and professors to foster knowledge sharing and exchange. Welcomed by Prof. Kenneth M.C. Cheung, Hospital Chief Executive, the visit included showcases of projects such as AILSI, Estelle Biovita, AGI for smart dental manufacturing, and Peptide for Bone Regeneration. The event was part of the HKU MedTech Co-innovation Conference and Hackathon programme, with more MedTech Hackathon events planned for the future. Stay tuned for further updates.

Hong Kong and Macau Youth Zhejiang Tour

The Hong Kong and Macau Youth Zhejiang Tour took place on 18 April 2025 in Hangzhou. Over 100 university representatives explored Zhejiang's science and technology industries and cultural heritage. The event promoted regional synergy and the development of new productive forces.

Highlights of the tour included visits to leading AI, biomedicine, and new energy sectors. HKU showcased 15 startup projects, and Dr. Qin Youming of Flowform Technology highlighted Hong Kong's AI potential. The event also featured HKU-led projects focused on hydrogen storage and battery technology. Dr. Zhang Ruihua’s project (HKU) on sustainable energy solutions for drones and electric vehicles received significant media attention. Dr. He Qijiao’s team secured industry partnerships to hasten commercialisation.

The tour fostered a deeper understanding of Zhejiang’s innovation ecosystem, highlighted HKU’s entrepreneurial achievements, and opened avenues for future collaboration among Hong Kong, Macau, and the mainland in technology and culture.

HKU TEC startups showcased their innovations at InnoEx 2025, held from 13th to 16th April at HKCEC. Emolab introduced ChatBear, featuring vibrant AI toys aimed at promoting mental wellness, while PecKPerK presented a reimagined approach to smart logistics. These pioneering startups underscore HKU TEC's commitment to advancing technological development.

Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme Launch Ceremony -HKU Demo Day X Hong Kong Startup Council (STARS Programme Cohort 6 – Session 2)

We are thrilled to invite you to attend the Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme Launch Ceremony and HKU X FHKI Startup Council Demo Day on 9 June 2025 (Monday).

A sequel to the successful HKU Gear-up programme, HKU Tech-up Programme is funded by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Youth Development Commission. Designed to empower youth entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the programme will provide 14 selected start-ups with seed funding of up to HK$600,000 each, complemented by mentorship, co-working spaces, professional services, networking and publicity opportunities. 

This event marks the launch of the Programme, followed by the HKU x FHKI Startup Council Demo Day, all aimed at fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and government to drive technological innovation in the Greater Bay Area.

Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme

The Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme (Tech-Up) aims to empower young tech entrepreneurs to transform their concepts into viable business ventures in Hong Kong and/or the Greater Bay Area by providing seed funding, mentorship, and access to key resources.

Tech-up is organised by HKU's TEC of The University of Hong Kong and supported by Home and Youth Affairs Bureau through the Funding Scheme for Youth Entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area , under the Youth Development Fund administered by the Youth Development Commission.

Benefits include:
