HKU Industry Forum: AI Synergy – Shaping Tomorrow's Technologies
On 23 September 2025, the Lok Yew Hall at HKU buzzed with excitement as the forum, organised by HKU's Versitech Limited, unfolded. Esteemed experts, industry leaders, and HKU researchers gathered to delve into the latest advancements in artificial intelligence.
Among its distinguished guests were representatives from China Mobile, China Merchant Group, Bytedance, and the renowned research firm Gartner, who shared invaluable insights into current projects and future technology trends. The forum fostered immense interest from its attendees on how AI is revolutionising various sectors, highlighting the collaborative spirit essential for driving innovation forward.
This event not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also aimed to shape the future landscape of AI in Hong Kong and beyond.
Innovation Week Demo Day
HKU TEC proudly celebrates its recent winners, recognising innovation across diverse fields. MattVerse Limited was honoured with the Advanced Technology Award for its Battery Design Automation (BDA) platform, integrating AI, quantum chemistry, and multiscale modelling to transform energy tech and attract substantial investment. BioEcho Limited received the Healthcare Award for pioneering the world’s first AI-powered wearable echocardiography device, enabling real-time, radiation-free cardiac monitoring around the clock. HKU TEC thanks all participants for their creativity and dedication in making the event truly inspiring.
Inaugural Super Angel Network Investor Meet-up
HKU TEC is pleased to share the highlights of the HKU Super Angel Network’s (SAN) first "Investor Meet-up" session, a truly inspiring event that demonstrates the group’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration within the HKU community and beyond. In this lively gathering, 13 talented HKU spin-offs were invited to showcase their innovative projects, while over 20 passionate angel investors from various professional backgrounds assembled to support promising startups and explore potential collaborations. This energetic exchange highlighted the remarkable creativity and entrepreneurial spirit fostered at the university.
HKU TEC Tech Up Programme: Startups' Showcase Progress in Lean Launcher Programme
After five weeks of market validation, customer discovery, and mentorship, the Tech Up Programme's startups presented their refined business ideas in the lean launcher final session. They engaged with real customers, gathered feedback, and iterated rapidly, sharpening products, targeting customers, and planning for commercialisation. Teams also submitted polished pitches and business plans for the semi-final round, with the top contenders moving on to the grand final.

Startup Highlights
Beverage Code
Beverage Code, a company co-founded by HKU alumnus Alex Pang along with Aaron Pang and Kethena Tang, exemplifies innovation and a commitment to health and sustainability within the beverage industry. Guided by their motto "From Pulp to Seed, Nothing Wasted," they craft delicious, low-sugar drinks using natural ingredients, including upcycled fruits that might otherwise be discarded. This venture not only reflects the pioneering spirit nurtured by the HKU iDendron incubation programme— which supported their early development with funding — but also demonstrates a strong dedication to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Their efforts have led to remarkable achievements, such as reducing water and energy consumption by 40 per cent, adopting recyclable aluminium cans and paper cartons instead of plastic, and repurposing waste like fruit peels for dye and tea leaves for paper. The company has gained recognition both among consumers and within corporate sectors, forming collaborations across hospitality and travel industries, while harnessing AI and Big Data to bolster their ESG commitments and enhance customer value as they expand into Mainland China and Southeast Asia.
