The recent Tech Up Series workshop focused on mastering AI for marketing, was held at HKU. Led by Mr Willy Lai, Co-Founder and CEO of FIMMICK, participants engaged in practical exercises utilising AI tools for market intelligence, campaign creation, and no-code automation. Attendees explored Perplexity for trend analysis, Google Gemini for content development, and n8n for automation workflows. The event demonstrated how startups can leverage AI to enhance their marketing strategies efficiently, even with limited resources. Organisers expressed gratitude to all participants and announced upcoming events.

HKU Teams Shine at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovaiton and Entrepreneurship Competition
Hong Kong University has achieved remarkable success at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, securing a total of 18 awards, including one Grand Prize, two First Prizes, two Second Prizes, six Third Prizes, and seven Merit Prizes. Additionally, HKU received the Outstanding Organisation Award for overall excellence. Notable projects include innovative solutions in medical technology, construction, AI frameworks, and energy storage. The university's achievements highlight its strong commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Congratulations to all participating teams and contributors for this outstanding accomplishment.

Securing Innovation: HKU Startup IP Day X Cooley Equips Healthcare Startups with Deal-Ready Patent Strategies!
On May 19, HKU, in collaboration with Cooley LLP, hosted Startup IP Day to provide healthcare startups with essential insights into IP and patent strategies. The event emphasised the importance of early patent decisions in influencing valuation, diligence, and deal negotiations. Over 70 entrepreneurs attended both in person at HKU Faculty of Medicine and online. Legal experts from Cooley LLP offered guidance through presentations and one-on-one consulting sessions, enhancing participants' understanding of intellectual property management. This initiative aims to strengthen the IP readiness of healthcare startups and support their path to market.

The future of healthcare just took centre stage at the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH)
The 3rd Annual HKU MedTech Hackathon GBA 2026 Final Pitch showcased the future of healthcare innovation, with over 60 multidisciplinary teams competing to present groundbreaking MedTech solutions. Top winners included NOVOMI VAX Limited, developing a broad-spectrum tumour immunotherapy, and CereThera Limited, creating a nasal spray for rapid stroke rescue. DeepReach Therapeutics secured third place with a platform to improve tumour targeting safety. The event highlighted HKU’s role in transforming frontier research into clinical applications, supported by investors, mentors, and partners dedicated to advancing healthcare technology.

2nd Hong Kong AI Educational Expo and Forum
The Hong Kong 2nd A.I. Educational Expo and Forum, hosted at The University of Hong Kong, convened over 500 participants, including educators, school leaders, and industry partners. The event featured keynote addresses by Prof. Rui Yang and Prof. Cecilia K. Y. Chan, highlighting the future of teaching and the integration of AI in education. Practical case studies from Holm Glad College and Pok Oi Hospital demonstrated real-world applications, while the exhibition showcased innovative EdTech solutions from various startups. The forum emphasised responsible AI use and fostered collaboration among stakeholders to advance educational practices.
