Animal Welfare - Importance in Biological Research


Abstract

Animal studies have contributed tremendously to biomedical research. The welfare of laboratory animals is the responsibility of all researchers. Careful consideration and planning is essential to ensure that all animal experiments are conducted in an ethical and humane manner. With increasing awareness, an increasing number of scientific studies have been conducted for improving animal welfare.

Biography

Dr Kelvin To is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong. He earned his medical degree from the University of Hong Kong and received his specialist training in clinical microbiology and infection at Queen Mary Hospital. His research focuses on severe respiratory tract infections. As a clinical microbiologist, he is involved in the daily operation of the clinical microbiology laboratory of Queen Mary Hospital. He also provides bedside consultations for patients with infectious diseases.
