Presentation

Abstract:

This seminar will review the use of digital media, such as websites and social media, for public knowledge sharing at HKU; and offer practical advice on the use of these tools in the context of the latest trends in social and digital media use in society.

With the support of KE funds, the JMSC conducted a survey of the mobility readiness of more than 200 websites at HKU; and has worked with some departments to upgrade their sites for broader reach. The seminar will share the results of the survey and reflect on the lessons learned from working with departments.

The speakers will argue that HKU would benefit from a content-driven, digital-first approach to public engagement. Modern organisations need to embrace digital transformations for effective communication with the public. While user-friendly and open-source tools have become increasing available, such transformation requires leadership and cultural shifts at all levels of the organisation.
