Presentation

Abstract:

Natural disasters are perhaps unavoidable. However, valuable lessons and knowledge could still be gained through those pains. In 2008, the Sichuan Earthquake took away lives and homes. But it also created an opportunity for our staff and students to contribute their expertise in a few reconstruction and recovery projects. In the summer of 2009 and 2010, Dr Wilton Fok and over a total 70 staff and students from various HKU departments went to Sichuan and exchanged their knowledge with the local students, teachers and government officials.

A series of knowledge exchange activities such as on-line class, interviews, reconstruction work, public conference, and book publications had been conducted. Dr Fok will share their experience in this meaningful project and his views on the factors of a successful knowledge exchange project.
