HKU Partners with Canadian Innovation Centres to Boost Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
In a strategic move to enhance the entrepreneurial landscape, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Super Angel Network (SAN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ventureLAB Innovation Centre of Canada and the Smart City Consortium (SCC). This partnership aims to foster collaboration and resource sharing between Hong Kong and Canadian startups and scale-ups, thereby opening new avenues for innovation and growth.
The MoU was formalised on 5 December 2025 at HKU's campus, attended by key figures including Prof. Alice Wong, Associate Vice-President (Research) of HKU; Mr Jovan Trajceski, Co-Chair of the Innovation Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong; and Dr. Winnie Tang, Founder and Honorary President of SCC. The agreement was signed by Mr. Hugh Chow, Chief Executive Officer of ventureLAB; Dr. Paul Wang, Director of HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (TEC); and Mr. Gary Yeung, President of SCC.
Dr. Wang noted, “This collaboration is designed to advance cross-border innovation and entrepreneurship. We will focus on deepening resource sharing, talent exchange, and technology commercialisation, creating stronger conditions for the development of start-ups and research teams.”
The partnership acknowledges the challenges faced by Hong Kong and Canadian companies in navigating regulatory landscapes and establishing trustworthy local connections. By combining strengths, the MoU will facilitate market access, knowledge exchange, and the growth of competitive firms in both regions.
As ventureLAB plays a pivotal role in supporting hardware technology and enterprise software companies, and SCC aims to develop Hong Kong into a world-class smart city, the collaboration holds vast potential to transform the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This initiative marks a significant step toward a more interconnected and innovative future for both territories.
